So, we had the goal of 10 new investigators this week, which was a pretty tall order, as we are normally happy to get 6 and the most I have ever had on my mission was 9. However, we wanted to do our part for the zone and the mission goals! We had some great opportunities to teach people we found in the area book and the family of our young lady investigator Raquel. That was the highlight of my week, maybe even my mission. She had been invited to FSY by her friend Sandra and we helped her get ready with the forms, having a Book of Mormon and literature for the youth. We hadn't spoken to her much before FSY, even though she had been at church twice. Then we set an appointment with her and her adopted parents and sister. It has to be 9pm or later as they work in a café a while away. We turned up and because only Raquel was there, we couldn't start teaching, as she is under 15 years old. It took a lot of faith to stay there as we saw the minutes tick by and our normal be at home time pass (thanks President for letting us stay out later if we have a lesson!) However, we both felt it was important that we stay. When her parents turned up we got straight to the first lesson about the restored gospel with our handy folder of pictures and scriptures (I am beginning to come round to it!) and it went textbook. They all accepted to read and pray about the Book of Mormon and Raquel's eyes lit up when we mentioned baptism. We challenged them to pray about baptism too. 3 of the 4 were set to come to church.
When they didn't turn up at church I was pretty sad. However, this happens, there really isn't any point in overreacting to it. So we call her to make another appointment and she says she has done what we asked. It took me a moment to realise what she was talking about and she said she had prayed about baptism and received her answer. After her prayer she had opened the Book of Mormon and found a section with an affirmative answer. She told US she wants to be baptised, we didn't even have to ask again! We only had one proper lesson! Bishop is coming teaching with us this week (first time a bishop has ever come teaching with me on my mission) and we are super excited that she should get baptised soon!!
In other news, a woman spoke to us in the street because she needed help with her phone (we weren't able to do much as she didn't know her PIN) but we ended up having an hour long discussion about the importance of faith, hope and charity and found out that she doesn't drink alcohol, tea or coffee and regularly goes about her day persuading people to stop smoking!
We called one person up and she made an appointment, we got pretty lost on the way, but she was actually there! And her sister listened to the lesson too, had loads of questions and wanted to know more about baptism! So miracles are real, goals are worth making and we have to put in the hard work, even if it doesn't always seem to pay off.
