It is awesome how God loves us enough to reveal his gospel in every dispensation so that we know what we need to do.
This is such a pivotal experience in the history of the world and in a person's conversion. Everything I read it, recite it or watch the Restoration Movie I had astounded by the faith of Joseph Smith. There was no way he could have foreseen the immense work he was about to be called to do, just from a humble prayer.
'That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple unto the ends of the world, and before kings and rulers.'
I realise that I need to keep the gospel message simple, uncomplicated, pure and plain just as Nephi would have wanted. Then, who knows who I'm going to teach!
'Adão caiu para que os homens existissem, e os homens existem para que tenham alegria'
'Adam fell that men might be, and men are that they might have joy'
I decided to start short and easy. But simplicity is often the best and this scripture certainly contains a lot of meaning.
How wonderful to know that to meet the 'end of our creation' or our purpose for being on this earth is purely to have joy. We're not here just to be told what to do or tick off a list of commandments, those things are only given to us to help us reach our end goal of joy.
We don't need to wait to have joy. The scripture doesn't say 'men will have joy when they get that red Ferrari, or when they obtain their dream job or when they marry the perfect spouse'. Instead it is a potential blessing for any of us, any of the time. I think joy is a choice and we can choose it every day.
What is to ponderize I hear you ask... well courtesy of Devin G. Durrant we have a fresh approach to scripture study that is sure to become an international sensation.
Elder Durrant has invited us to select a verse of scripture each week to think over, display and ultimately, naturally memorise. Thus we can have these scriptures written in our minds and in our hearts. Think how powerful that would be if we could keep it up for the 20 years he has challenged himself! (Personally, my goal is to keep it up for the 18 months of the mission and we'll see how that goes). He promises that by doing this, we will have a higher place for our thoughts to go.
This was the perfect opportunity for me because I already wanted to start memorising scriptures in Portuguese, so that I might have something to say after 'Bom Dia!' So, in this section I will share my Portuguese ponderizing scripture of the week and some of the thoughts I've had about it.
What scripture would you choose? Will you take on this ponderization challenge? Please feel free to comment with your own ponderized scriptures and how they have helped you :-)
